Asian cuisine is a general concept that includes Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Malaysian, and Filipino cuisine. Of course, each of the above-listed national cuisines has its own specifics, but there are also some common features that allow you to combine all these so diverse culinary traditions into a holistic concept, which is called Asian cuisine.
First of all, it should be noted that all the dishes of Asian cuisine are aromatic, spicy, delicious, but at the same time surprisingly light. Europeans and Americans, who have recently become acquainted with the ancient Asian traditions, are very fond of Asian cuisine recipes, which really can not leave anyone indifferent.
The main and key feature of Asian cuisine is a huge number of rice dishes. Rice in the recipes of Asian cuisine takes as much pride of place as potatoes for Europeans. Asians can hardly imagine a meal that could do without rice. But even here, each national cuisine has its own peculiarities. For example, in Japan, round rice is preferred, and in Thailand – sticky long rice jasmine, in India, a variety of long – grain rice-basmati is widely distributed.
It is difficult to imagine recipes of Asian cuisine without traditional noodles. It is usually made from eggs with the addition of wheat flour. Egg noodles are served with soups and salads, and are usually seasoned with soy sauce. In addition to soy sauce, in Asian cuisine, fish sauce is common, in its properties it largely resembles soy and very often replaces salt in dishes.
Other additives and related products include ginger, wasabi, coconut milk, chili seasoning, curry paste, tofu cheese, and seaweed.
Asian cuisine is primarily about sauces and spices. We have already mentioned sauces, now we should talk about seasonings. Here, too, is not without local specifics. For example, in Korea, fried sesame is used as the main seasoning. It is added to almost every dish. And in China, they prefer fennel, Sichuan pepper, anise, cinnamon, star anise, as well as a local invention-Wuxianmian-a seasoning that is a mixture of cinnamon, fennel, cloves, Sichuan pepper and star anise, taken in equal parts.
Among the drinks, tea occupies a leading position in Asian cuisine. The birthplace of tea is considered to be China, however, the traditions of tea drinking are very ancient and have been preserved in almost all Asian countries, and have remained almost unchanged since time immemorial. Among alcoholic beverages, Asians prefer sake-rice vodka, in addition, they are also very fond of wine and beer.
If we talk about traditional dishes of Asian cuisine, then here, without a doubt, sushi, sashimi and many other various culinary masterpieces from fish and seafood are worthy of mention. Another traditional component of Asian cuisine is rice and meat dishes (mainly pork and chicken), and the variations on this theme in the recipes of Asian cuisine are truly countless.
